WALKING TOURS
Lake Natron is one of the most serene lakes in Africa and a little-visited area of magnificent volcanic landscape below the Rift Valley escarpment. A walking safari at Lake Natron and the surrounding Ngorongoro highlands will allow you to experience a glorious and spectacular scenery that is unique in this world. The hugely popular parks in Northern Tanzania are just around the corner, but you will have this area largely to yourselves.

One bird species has managed to make the alkaline water of Lake Natron its home without any trouble: Up to 150,000 pairs of the endangered Lesser Flamingos breed here simultaneously. This makes Lake Natron the largest breeding ground for Lesser Flamingos in East Africa and a bird sanctuary and wetland of international importance.

ENGARE SERO WARD
This part of the Great Rift Valley is populated by the Maasai people. Maasai bomas spread around the area, but the main central village is named Engare Sero, which means "dappled water". Our village gets its name from the river flowing out of the surrounding escarpment through a spectacular gorge.
When you visit Lake Natron make sure you take some time and visit our little village with a local guide or sleep in a traditional Maasai boma and learn about our culture and heritage but also about the challenges we are facing.
VOLCANO + WATERFALL
The greatest highlight of the Lake Natron area is the perfect cone of Ol Doinyo Lengai, a picture book volcano which rises 2,962 m out of the plains. The active volcano is sacred to the Maasai. Climbing the Mountain of God under the moonlight is a truly unforgettable experience for fit and adventurous souls. The challenging, steep night-time hike will reward you with an epic sunrise view from the crater rim as well as spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
When around Lake Natron you definitely should not miss the adventurous hike along the Engare Sero creek. Our guides will bring you safely through the narrow rocky gorge, and after a 45 min walk you will be surprised by a swim in the wonderfully cool spring water under a thundering waterfall from the Ngorongoro massif.
